Hmmm maybe they are on to something?
Pic-A-Pix Deluxe – Nintendo Switch – Released: 12/4/18 – $7.99
Short Review (Review copy provided by Lightwood Games)
I was contacted about this game about two months before launch and it was the first game. I saw on the eShop on the 3DS and always thought it was interesting. I didn’t think much of it since I wasn’t sure what was going on so I always passed it by. When I first booted it up I had no clue what I was doing but quickly adjusted to what I needed to do. Playing this game has sucked up a lot of my time for good and bad reason but overall it has been a great experience! I personally love the addition of colors since now it is very clear to me what I am making at the end. The only issue is the game is hard…. It is very hard. It jumps from easy to medium to difficult within a handful of puzzles. It is surprisingly how quickly this game gets hard and it doesn’t provide an easy mode for younger gamers. Even though this game looks very easy and kid friendly I found that due to the jump in difficulties it can be rough for children. I wasn’t able to test this due to my nephew being too young to understand what Picross is but if I am having trouble I’m sure a child would have even more trouble. I would recommend this someone who wants a change in the Picross formula but only for people who are determined and love this puzzle genre already.
Icon is pretty nice:
No Story… Its Picross, it needs no story.
It is your average Picross but has colors mixed in as well. Same rules apply but it could be one black, one blue, one green, 2 blues, etc for a row. You will also have to skip lines as well to create the clear areas. That is about it… the game is pretty basic so what you see is what you get.
I was able to get through half of the game and it took me around 15 hours. That sounds like a lot but the game only gets harder so the last half of the game is going to take me another 20-30 hours. The game does offer DLC as well which I will be checking out down the line but don’t want to rush it since games like Piczle Lines DX. I was easily able to get 100+ hours in PL DX so eventually I know I will hit 100 hours so expect this game to get another review sometime in the summer.
I know I am enjoying my time with the game but it is no joke. This game gets hard and not the good type of hard. I do have to say the color aspect is great but wish it had easier puzzles for a longer amount of time. Including the ability to complete a line or a block to clear puzzles easier. This game reminds me of how hard the Mario Picross was on the gameboy…. just brutal. I would say if you want some brutal Picross with no help system and slightly easier because of colors… Go for it! I’m not sure about the DLC since I don’t have any as of yet but will eventually get them to fill up my hours for 100!
I would give this game a 8 out of 10!
My Gameplay Footage:
Whew! This game has been rough all around… It is a great little game for a great price but it is no joke. When I originally got the email I thought it would be an easy game but it is tough as nails which is the trend on here. If you can’t stand the heat, you shouldn’t be in the kitchen! It is kind of sad how hard this game ramps up but if you take your time it is pretty much on par with any other Picross game. Well anyway let me know how you like the review and come back tomorrow for another one!
