Sooooo where are my friends then?
Where Are My Friends? – Nintendo Switch – Released: 4/25/18 – $5.99
Short Review (Review copy provided by Sometimes You)
Pretty short review, I would give this game a 2 out of 10!
Funny how I like this icon but why do icons not come with titles:
Story
You wake up not knowing where you are, what happened to your friends, and what you are even doing. You have to journey to different locations to locate your friends and free them from their captors.
Gameplay
While the game is basically a 2D adventure puzzle game it has a gameplay shift after you complete the opening area. This completely threw me off as it went from the 2D adventure puzzle game to a point and click adventure game. It is a strange shift as you get use to the controls for a good 15-30 minutes before you enter this new area. Then you are tasked with clicking on locations to move your character, picking up items, and drag and dropping to solve puzzles. The game doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be as the story is all over the place with each character having a weird story detailing what happened to them and the shift in gameplay.
Personal Experience
I spent several hours with this game when it should have only taken at most an hour or two. Where are my friends? is a game that I wish I never bothered with since puzzles are pretty simple as you are able to solve them easily but the time it takes to go to locations is too long. I spent the most of my time either touching objects or clicking on the environment to find out what is usable or trying to move my character. The game does have some cute “cutscenes” when you watch something on a TV screen but they are un-skippable. If you touch them by mistake you will need to let it play out completely before you can continue. This resulted in many times of me trying to click on something but the pointer slips and touching the TV again.
Final Thoughts
Overall this game is a mess, the puzzles are straight forward or can be brutal forced in solving. The opening of the game has you playing one way then once you enter locations it turns into a different style of gameplay. Sometimes You has some questionable releases but this is up there on one of the worst. I’m not sure who does the all clear on games but they need to carefully choose games as this is definitely on the bottom. I would give this game a 2 out of 10!
