Man things can get a little weird in this game…
GRIDD: Retroenhanced – Nintendo Switch – Released: 6/7/18 – $11.99
Short Review (Review copy provided by Kongregate)
This game is fairly short but tough as nails! I would give this game an 8 out of 10!
Story
While the game does have a story it doesn’t really make sense. You are a ship that is trying to gather information, I believe you are a hacker piloting through servers. Venturing through different areas and cracking code until you beat the game.
Gameplay
You control a ship in a 3D space much like Star Fox but the camera doesn’t always move around with you. This is my biggest issue with the game, the camera tries to fight you when trying to view how far things are. I could be moving in one direction to find out that no matter how far I went I was still going to get hit. It is a shame that this is what is holding it back since a fixed camera or over the shoulder would have been better. As you play the game you will gain power ups that double damage, heal, or create a shield. Enemies will sometimes require you to attack them a certain way like they will reflect shots if hit while facing their back against you or requiring you to maintain a few shots on them. Each section has a fairly easy boss to fight once you find out their pattern. This is when camera can be the most frustrating as you will need to weave and dodge enemy fire.
Personal Experience
The first time I played this to be honest I felt a little sick. This was likely due to the movement since the ship can move fast and the camera moves with it. After a while I did get use to so fair warning to people with motion sickness. Once I got over it the game felt great though but camera was something that made me feel like throwing my controller multiple times. It is a shame since I really enjoy this game but takes a while to get use to the camera. You will think you will dodge something and still get hit or you will try and go between objects and still get hit. I doubt it is the hitbox since I’m sure I could make it through some areas with no problems.
Final Thoughts
This is a game that keep pulling me back with its intense visuals and eye popping design. It is a shame that the camera angle can mess you up in multiple areas and take time to get use to. GRIDD is what I would like a Star Fox game to be today. Multiple areas to travel through with bosses that have a little challenge but enough that you can’t beat them your first time. I enjoyed running through this game and finally beating it was a great experience. I would give this game an 8 out of 10!

As you may have noticed there is now a new section which is themed cocktail. I decided to give this a try and see what people think of it. If you guys don’t know on my Instagram I post cocktails that my friends and I make during the weekend and I post them during the week. I really love making drinks with my friends so decided to include that into my reviews with each game getting a themed cocktail for them. Let me know what you guys think and as always I’ll see you in the next review!
