Sometimes clones of Meat Boy can be a bit charming…
Save the Ninja Clan – Nintendo Switch – Released: 4/27/18 – $4.99
Short Review (Review copy provided by Sometimes You)
Pretty simple game so just check out the full review, I would give this game a 7 out of 10!
Story
An evil Ninja has taken your friends and you have to go save them. You collect scrolls to find out their locations, which are just level end markers, and you race bosses to rescue your friends.
Gameplay
This is a Super Meat Boy style clone so you have the run and jumping as the main methods of movement. You will be attacked by enemies and some enemies will have homing attacks. There are no big bosses but bosses you race through a level to get your friends. The game does have some weird sections that “break” the game or the game becoming self aware. It is a nice touch but just lets you skip levels if you find a secret route.
Personal Experience
I blasted through this game but I have also 100% Super Meat Boy so if you want something to pass time and be somewhat hard at points, this is a fun little game. There is nothing crazy or different about it but simple is good at times. I haven’t 100% it yet since there is no objective to getting all the secret routes but I am still looking for more hidden areas. The text is pretty funny when the game becomes self aware and a part of that is shown in my gameplay footage.
Final Thoughts
Simple, somewhat easy, and overall a good time. If you are looking for something cheap like Super Meat Boy to hold you off until the next one, I would pick this up. I wouldn’t say it is doing anything new or anything but it was a fun time. I would give this game a 7 out of 10!
